ABOUT
Developed in partnership between Yevgen Nemchenko and Benjamin Cunningham, WKWTA or We Know Who They Are… is a comprehensive exhibition project featuring the artworks and wartime artifacts of over 20 Ukrainian artists. As a traveling exhibition, WKWTA is conducted under Conflicted Art, an art-based organization developed by Nemchenko and Cunningham in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
CURATORs
Benjamin Cunningham earned his B.A. in Political Science and Fine Arts from The George Washington University (2026) and is an incoming J.D. candidate at the George Washington University Law School. An accomplished artist, his work has been presented in over a dozen exhibitions, and he has completed artistic residencies at the Rural Residency for Contemporary Arts in Brescia, Italy, and the New York Academy of Art in NYC. Cunningham utilizes the exhibition as a reference point for examining wartime artwork as a device for stimulating activism and advocacy, while proposing art-making as a means of survival and cultural resistance.
Yevgen Nemchenko came to the United States from Ukraine 20 years ago and has been collecting art and antiques for over 10. After the invasion, Yevgen used his network in the Ukrainian art world to purchase a number of artworks by contemporary Ukrainian artists. Utilizing his professional project management experience, he has launched eight exhibits to date, one of which took place in the oldest private art gallery in Washington, DC. Yevgen intends to continue this endeavor to help artists in this time of need and give their work global exposure.
